Asymmetric Reduction and Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley Reaction of Prochiral Aromatic Ketones in the Presence of Optically Pure 1-Aryl-2, 2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diols.

-The title reactions are carried out in the presence of optically pure 1-aryl-2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diols, e.g. CPD and PDP, under varying conditions. In the Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley reduction of acetophenone ( III), higher e.e's are obtained with (R)-BINOL than with PDP. -(HU, X.;
