✦ Synopsis

Asymmetric Construction of 4H-Carbazol-4-one Intermediates via the Cyclohexadienone Annulation of Chiral Carbene Complexes. -The first example of asymmetric induction in a cyclohexadienone annulation of a 2-indolyl chromium carbene complex bearing an imidazolidinone chiral auxiliary is reported. The chiral complexes (III) and (IV), obtained from (I) are atropisomers that are readily separated. Each reacts with the same alkyne (V) to give the 4H-carbazol-4-one products with apposite configurations at the quaternary carbon.
