✦ Synopsis
Application of Baylis-Hillman Methodology in a Novel Synthesis of Quinoline Derivatives.
-Reaction of 2-nitrobenzaldehyde (I) with vinyl carbonyl compounds (II) in the presence of DABCO affords Baylis-Hillman products (III) which can be converted to quinoline derivatives [cf. (IV), (V), (VI), (X)] by catalytic reduction reactions. Similar reaction of 2-nitrobenzaldehyde (I) with vinyl ethyl ketone (XI) does not yield Baylis-Hillman products but affords the quinoline (XII) and the N-oxide (XIII). -
