Antimicrobial Compounds from Ceanothus americanus Against Oral Pathogens.

-The triterpenes ceanothic acid (Ia), 27-hydroxyceanothic acid (Ib) and ceanothetric acid (Ic), and the flavonoids maesopsin (II) and maesopsin-6-O-glucoside (III) are isolated from the methanolic extract of the root bark of Ceanothus americanus. The compounds (Ic) and (III) are new. All compounds are tested for their antimicrobial activities against selected oral pathogens; only (Ic) shows significant activity.
