Anti-Tumour Heterocycles. Part 14. A New Route to Pyrrolo(3,2-f ) indoles and the Novel Pyrrolo(3,2-f;4,5-f ')diindole System.

-A new and general route for the synthesis of pyrrolo(3,2-f)indoles (cf. (III), (VII)) based on the montmorillonite-mediated condensation of 5-acetoxymethyl-4acetylpyrroles with 2,3-unsubstituted pyrroles is given. The side products (VIII) and (IX), resulting from the reaction of two acetylpyrroles (V) with pyrrole (VI), smoothly undergo acid-induced cyclization to furnish the first reported example of a pyrrolodiindole (X). -(CHUNCHATPRASERT, L.; SHANNON,
