✦ Synopsis

An Unusual Trifluoromethyl Elimination Reaction from the 4,4-Bis( trifluoromethyl)-5-hydroxyimidazoline Ring System.

-The title reaction leads to the biologically interesting 4-( trifluoromethyl)imidazole analogues (II) and (III). The imidazole (II) is converted to the benzamides (IV) and (V), which show moderate inhibition of acyl CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase in vitro assays.
