An Unusual Oxidation of Thiazol-2-ylmethanol in Hydrolytic Conditions.

-From an observed undesired side reaction the title unusual oxidation to compounds such as (II) is developed. Without bubbling oxygen through the reaction mixture the yields are in general 10-20% lower. Mechanistical aspects are discussed.
