An Allylic Isoprenoid C 5 Nucleophile for the Synthesis of Forskolin.

-Coupling of allyl stannanes with benzaldehyde is investigated under various conditions. In the presence of butyllithium or SnCl 4 coupling occurs with allylic inversion. By contrast, the use of indium chloride as Lewis acid results in the formation of the desired product (III). Under the same conditions drimenal (IV) is coupled to give the labdane derivative (V), an intermediate on the way to forskolin. -(BEHNKE, D.;
