Amino Acid Derived Thiane Oxide and Dioxide Systems as Disposable Templates: Synthesis of α-Amino Ketones, anti-Amino Alcohols and an Amino Cyclopentenone.

-Treatment of sulfones or sulfoxides such as (I) and (VIII) with strong base results in a cyclization to the amino ketones (II) and (IX), respectively. These are further transformed to the amino cyclopentanone (VI), the anti-amino alcohol (XI) and the amino ketone ( XII) via Ramberg-Baecklund chemistry or Raney nickel desulfurization. -(GAMBLE, M.
