Ambident Isothiocyanatomethanide Anion for Regioselective Synthesis of Thiazoles.

-Reaction of methyl isothiocyanate (I) with LDA affords an ambident isothiocyanatomethanide anion which smoothly cyclizes with a second molecule of compound (I) to give a 5-methylamino-1,3-thiazole-2-thiolate, isolated as its 5-dimethylamino-2-methylthio analogue (III). -
