A Versatile Di(8-hydroxyquinoline) Building Block for Supramolecular as well as Metallo-Supramolecular Chemistry. -Title compound (I) forms a hydrogen-bonded polymer in the solid state, while in the presence of gallium(III) ions and appropriate alkali metal cations as templates metaldirected self-assembly affords cryptate-type triple-stranded meso-helicates.
