β¦ Synopsis
A Spiroindolinopyran with Switchable Optical Activity.
-Photochemical switching between the diastereomeric spiropyrans (III) and (IV) does not lead to a decay of the optical activity. This behavior can be attributed to the asymmetric induction by the stereogenic center C-3. If the room temperature equilibrium concentrations of the diastereomers are frozen at Β‘ -40 β’ C, irradiation with UV light displaces the equilibrium, causing information to be stored. The chiroptical properties enable subsequent reading of the data.
