A Simple Preparation of Aryl Methanesulfonates by Thermal Decomposition of Dry Arenediazonium o-Benzenedisulfonimides in Methanesulfonic Acid. -The thermal decomposition of the highly stable arenediazonium salts (I) in methanesulfonic acid fails when a methoxy, fluoro or nitro group is in ortho-position. In all cases, the o-benzenedisulfonimide (IV) is recovered in high yield and can be reused for preparing (I), which can also be used instead of the tetrafluoroborates for the preparation of triflates [cf. (VI)].
