✦ Synopsis

The submicrometersized silica particles obtained in this work are almost perfectly spherical in shape and no agglomeration takes place. The pores are randomly distributed over the siliceous shell, whereas the core is dense and non-porous. The porous shell is formed by addition of a Si(OEt) 4 /n-octadecyltrimethoxysilane mixture to preformed non-porous silica spheres and subsequent calcination. The thermal stability and the high surface area make these silica beads suitable as adsorbent for various applications in chromatography. -(BUECHEL, G.; UNGER, K.
