-A synthetic approach to the seco-CI alkylating compounds (VIII) and (X) is reported. Both compounds can serve as prodrugs in cancer chemotherapy and are directly activated by nitroreductase enzyme at the surface of tumor cells and show a hundredfold more cytotoxicity than the tested 4-aminobenzyl derivative. -(TERCEL, M.; DENNY, W.
