✦ Synopsis
new title compound are obtained from a mixture of La2O3, B2O3, and LaF3 in the molar ratio 5:6:2 (Walker-type multianvil apparatus, 6 GPa, 1300 °C, 10 min). La4B4O11F2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 8. The crystal structure contains BO3 groups connected by BO4 tetrahedra via common vertices, B 2 O 5 units, and isolated BO 3 groups. The structure shows a wave-like modulation along the b-axis generated by the orientation of trigonal BO3 groups and BO4 tetrahedra.
