A New Stereoselective Synthesis of Phosphiranes.

-Both enantiomers of the phosphirane (III) and the corresponding meso-compound (IX) are prepared and converted to their tungsten pentacarbonyl and tungsten tetracarbonyl-triphenylphosphine complexes, e.g. (V) and (VII). In the case of the meso-tosylate (VIII), the corresponding syn-cis-compound is also formed in the crude reaction mixture, but decomposes during work-up. The absolute stereochemistries of the tungsten complexes are determined by X-ray-analysis.
