β¦ Synopsis
A New Radical Vinylation Reaction of Iodides and Dithiocarbonates.
-A novel method for the radical olefination of aliphatic iodides is presented based on sulfone chemistry. The introduction of phenylvinyl, mono-, or dichlorovinyl groups into the iodides is achieved by generation of the corresponding radicals from ethyl vinyl sulfones (II) in the presence of tert-butyl or lauroyl peroxide. The reaction proceeds in good yields with secondary or tertiary iodides, in contrast to primary iodides [cf. (VIII)]. The method can be extended to dithiocarbonates like (X) due to their similar behavior as compared to iodides. -(
