A New Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Oxyfluorotitanate [Hgua] 2 •(Ti 5 O 5 F 12 ) as a Transparent UV Filter. -[(NH2)2C=NH2]2Ti5O5F12 is synthesized by microwave--assisted solvothermal reaction of TiF4 and [(NH2)2C=NH]•HCl (EtOH, microwaves, autoclave, 190 °C, 1 h). The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Cmm2 with Z = 2 (powder XRD). The three-dimensional structure consists of ∞ 2 [Ti 5 O 5
] layers separated by guanidinium cations. UV/VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy indicates an optical gap of 3.3 eV. The refraction index is low in the visible region (about 1.9) compared to that of TiO2, and the title compound shows a good transparency adapted to UV shielding. Under UV irradiation at 254 nm for 40 h, the white powder turns to light purple-gray. The title compound can be considered for potential applications as protective UV absorber for replacement of ZnO or TiO 2 . -
