✦ Synopsis

The key step in this concise and flexible method for the synthesis of biologically interesting piperidine alkaloids such as 1-deoxy-azasugars (VII) and (X) is the kinetic asymmetric resolution under modified Sharpless conditions to compounds (S)-(I) and (II). It is noteworthy that the synthesis of the enantiomers of (VII) and (X) is also described via the transformation of (S)-(I) by MCPBA-oxidation to the antipode of (II).
