Synthesis and Conformation.

-The first synthesis of the parent 1,2-dithia-5azacyclooctan-6-one (IV) and the substituted derivatives (VII) is described. Compounds (IV) and (VIIa) exist in solution in a conformation with a transamide bond, (VIIb) shows three conformations with the major conformer possessing a cis-amide bond. -(CAVEDA
