โœฆ Synopsis

Permanent chemical modifications of electrode surfaces to improve selectivity of electrochemical processes have attracted considerable Covalent binding of enzyme molecules onto an electrode surface is described in the present paper. This modified electrode is agood tool to study interaction between the active site and the electrochemical surface. Numerous papers have been devoted to analytical applications of sensors resulting from an association between an electrode and an enzyme film (reviewed in Ref. 5). In this case, there is no molecular proximity between the electrochemical interface and the enzyme active site.

Other studies dealing with enzyme stabilization by adsorption and crosslinking on graphite or activated carbon are described in Refs. 6-8. Glucose oxidase was immobilized through the amine functions onto a composite carbon p o ~d e r . ~ We describe an immobilization of enzyme molecules onto glassy carbon (nonporous) directly through superficial oxides generated by anodic oxidation.

The method was optimized with glucose oxidase (GIO). Amperometric measurement of one of the products, H,O,, allows an evaluation of the enzyme activity according to:
