✦ Synopsis
Compounds having cancer-preventing activity are developed during the metabolism of selenium in plants and animals. Monomethylated forms of selenium appear to be one class of chemopreventive metabolites. Synthetic organoselenium compounds have been used to explore determiners of activity and differentiation from other biological effects of selenium. Triphenyl selenouium chloride, a new type of chemopreventive selenium compound, has been synthesized in radioactive form for use as a tracer to facilitate studies of its mode of action.
