✦ Synopsis

H chemical shift spectroscopy has been used to determine the diffusing species in layered and defect pyrochlore structures of HNbWO,.xH,O (x= 1.5, 1). A narrow signal at S= 1 I .3 ppm in the former indicates the presence and diffusion of H,O+ ions, while for the latter compound 6= 7.7 ppm, implying the absence of H,O+ ions.
