โฆ Synopsis
A theory describing the flow within a bubble rising in a fluidized bed is given for both twoand three-dimensional systems. The theory is then related to the effect of bubbles on a fluid/solid reaction in a fluidized bed and three possible models for the fluid flow are outlined, from which it is possible to estimate the conversion in a fluidized chemical reactor.

In a gas fluidized bed, heat to and from a heat exchanger surface can be transferred by the gas and/or particle convection. Despite more than 40 years of intensive research on this topic, the contribution through particle convection remains inadequately described, while the gas convective component
