We see copious production of charmed hadrons in the early LHCb data. The status and plans for charm production studies at LHCb are discussed, and preliminary signals are shown.

โฆ Synopsis
The LHCb experiment has an exciting potential for charm physics studies. A dedicated D * trigger will provide 10 8 events per 2 fb -1 of flavour tagged D 0 โ hh decays, which will give unprecedented sensitivity in searches for D 0 mixing and CP violation. The same sample provides an invaluable calibration signal for the experiment's performance, in particular that of the RICH detector. This programme will be described, and initial Monte Carlo studies presented.

The latest results are presented from CLEO-c on W annihilation decays of the D + and D + s mesons. This includes the decay constants and the first observation of the decay D + s โ pn. Presented here is the final result for the D + from the complete data set of 818 pb -1 and an updated result for the
