β¦ Synopsis
The &emely low effjciency of the intramolecti ener,v trakfer process in europium acetyhcetonate compared With the corresponding terbium acetylacetonate is attriiuted to the presence of a charge-transfer excited state lying below the 'I l&&l singlet states. This is supported by Ihe anomalous absorption speclrum of the Eu3' complex and the effects of added ani,ons in other ligand systems.
