Abstract
Thermodynamic and spectroscopic properties of the charge‐transfer complex acenaphtene‐tetrachlorophtalic anhydride were studied in different solvents. The corresponding thermodynamic and spectroscopic parameters were corrected for solvent competition. Only in this case were correlations obtained in agreement with theory. The solvents were divided into several classes such as aromatic, aromatic with one functional group, halogen containing and n‐donor solvents. The role of general and specific solvent effects is emphasized.
