✦ Synopsis

Mc;lsuremcnts of the rransl;itional energy loss accompanying the charge-stripping reactions 31*-k N -M'+ + h' + e have been performed for five molecular ions in the poiytcene series The energy necessary to remow the second electron from an ion, &in = IE(hI+* 31 3), is found t o correlate with the energy level of the highest occupied molecular orbital. The esperimentnl findings are discussed in terms of Hiickei molecular-orbital theory.

Multiply charged atomic and molecular ions are detected following laser multiphoton ionisation of UF, vapor under collision-free conditions. Most multiply charged molecular ions are thermodynamically unstable with respect to dissociation into singly charged fragment ions [l-3] \_ They are therefore

Both positive and negative plasma desorption mass spectra of the three-dimensionally non-molecular material [ Cd(SC,H,-2-CH3)2] contain fragment ions directly related to the lattice structure of the material. Fragment ions are observed which correspond with [ CdSC,H, I +' and [ CdS,C,H, I -' which d
