✦ Synopsis

This paper has presented a new higher order subgridding scheme, which employs a transition region, is stable, and generates relatively low mismatch reflection between the coarse and fine grid regions. The method has been validated by comparing the numerical results for the subgridding case, with refinement factors of 3 and 5, with those obtained directly with the FDTD scheme on a globally fine grid. Although the method is generalizable to larger values of the refinement factors, these have not been considered here because the refinement factor of 5 is usually more than sufficient, and also because the procedure can become quite complex for larger factors. Modifications of the algorithm to deal with material interfaces in the transition region are planned for the future. REFERENCES 1. K.S.
