✦ Synopsis

Samples of nominal composition (Bi2_xSbx)Sr2CaCu2Oy (0.1 <x<0.3) are investigated. X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction show that the (Bi2_ xSbx) Sr2CaCu20~ system has a monoclinic phase with the lattice parameters a = 21.73/k, b = 5.76 • ~, c = 19.32 ,~ and/3 = 95.0 °, except for the tetragonal Bi-2212 phase. The results of energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy reveal that Sb does not substitute for Bi in the Bi-2212 main structure, but forms the monoclinic phase of Bi4Sr4Ca2SbO~. The superconducting transition temperature, which is examined by electric resistance and AC magnetic susceptibility, is constant at about 87 K. The reason why Sb cannot substitute forBi in Bi202 layers has been discussed from the point of view of coordination.

The superconducting phase with mixed TI and Bi, namely (Tlo.55Bio.45)Sr2CaCu20y, was synthesized and characterized. Synthesis conditions were studied, and this phase, (TI,Bi)-1212, was found to form preferentially to (TI,Bi)-1223 when Sr was present with no Ba present. X-ray powder diffraction with

Magnetic hysteresis curves were deduced from the temperature dependence of the magnetization curves. In this method we observed the sub-harmonics of the anomalous peak for the oxygen annealed sample, which strongly suggested the possible matching or synchronous effect as the origin of the peaks.
