✦ Synopsis
In the first step, classic IGC probes-n-alkanes, branched Inverse gas chromatography (IGC) at infinite dilution was used alkanes, and polar molecules-are used to experience the to characterize the fumed silica surface. The silica was modified surface properties. In the second step, using PDMS model by chemical treatment with either dimethyldichlorosilane or trimolecules (linear and cyclic oligomers) as probes, we try methylchlorosilane. To observe the silica and poly(dimethylsiloxto gain more information about monomer unit-silica surface ane) (PDMS) interactions, we used apolar (alkanes) and polar interactions.
probes (chloroform, benzene, tetrahydrofuran, etc.), but also First, we recall the principles of IGC and provide experimodel molecules of PDMS such as linear and cyclic oligomers of mental details. Thereafter, we present the main results ob-PDMS with two to five monomer units. It is shown that PDMS tained with the classic probes for IGC. Finally, the results oligomers are very appropriate to discriminate the silylated silicas.
