✦ Synopsis

Recursors, which cause U.V. radiation instability, were selectively extracted from hydroprocessed gas oils with IV-methylpyrrolidinone containing water. The compositional characteristics of these extracts are discussed in terms of the types and distribution of hydrocarbon classes. The extracted precursors appear to fall into broad hydrocarbonclasses. The precursors, which were found to be more polar than the components left in the raftinates, were not sufficiently chemically or structurally distinct to permit determination of the effect of the specific hydrocarbon type concentration. The polarity was probably due to exposed aromatic nuclei or olefinic fragments in structures with either decreased degree of alkyl substitution or decreased predomination by cy~loparaffinic fragments.
