The tribological performance of piston rings in reciprocating internal combustion engines can only be fully understood when both lubrication and wear are considered in combination. To this end, a numerical model has been developed that predicts the dynamics, lubrication and wear of piston rings inte

โฆ Synopsis
In this study, the surface of a piston in a diesel engine was coated with molybdenum nitride (MoN) by using the arc PVD method, and its surface behaviour was subsequently analyzed. Analyses of microhardness, SEM, X-ray and surface roughness were carried out in order to examine surface characteristics of pistons. It is found that the hardness of coated piston is 2000 ยฑ 400 HV while hardness uncoated piston 123 HV. The results show less deformation and fewer scratches due to wear on the MoN-coated piston as compared to uncoated one.

This paper deals with some origins of mechanically induced noise caused by various forces (resulting from the combination of combustion and inertia forces) which act on the moving parts of the engine to accelerate them across their running clearances and thus cause mechanical impacts. These impacts
A two-zone model for the calculation of the closed cycle of a direct injection (DI) diesel engine is presented. The cylinder contents are taken to comprise a non-burning zone of air and another homogeneous zone in which fuel is continuously supplied from the injector holes during injection and burne
