โœฆ Synopsis

An oily product formed by the reaction of a domestic subbituminous coal (Taiheiyo coal) with hydrogen atoms at 200ยฐC. has been characterized. The material is essentially composed of C,--C,, alkanes and cycloalkanes. The H/C ratio, specific gravity and refractive index were 1.81, 0.855 and 1.447, respectively. The absence of heteroatoms, alkenesand aromatics in the product is the outstanding feature of the coal liquefaction induced by hydrogen atoms.

The reaction of fast hydrogen atoms with HCN has been studied. Hydrogen atoms with up to 55 kcal/mole of translational energy were produced by photodissociation of HzS at 193 nm. The CN (X ) product of the endothermic reaction H +HCN-t Hz + CN was detected by laser induced fluorescence in the B-X vi

The reaction of 1-butanethiol with hydrogen atoms was investigated at room temperature under pressures of 133, 266, 532, 2660, and 5320 Pa, using two types of fast-flow discharge reactors; the main products were n-butane and 1-butene with total yields of more than 90%. In the reaction of 1-butanethi
