Abstract
Understanding and controlling of magnetic properties around interfaces can improve the performances of magnetic devices such as magnetic tunneling junction. We propose characterization of ferromagnetism around interface by rear‐incident magneto‐optic Kerr effect (MOKE). In order to establish a rear‐incident MOKE technique, effects of absorption, reflection, and Faraday rotation by substrates have been carefully investigated on Ni~80~Fe~20~ thin films deposited on various substrates. Differences of Kerr rotation angle caused by effects of absorption and reflection of the substrates were negligibly small. Measurements of Kerr hystereses were performed without negative influence of Faraday rotation in substrates with Verdet constant smaller than 0.05 rad/Tmm such as SiO~2~, glass, and SrTiO~3~, shows that rear‐incident MOKE can be used for evaluation of ferromagnetism around interfaces.
