✦ Synopsis

Colloidal gold particles with core diameters between 5.2 and 14.6 nm Ž are investigated by capillary zone electrophoresis in acetic acidracetate buffer pH . 5.0 without any sieving additive. It was found that the mobility of the particles with a given core diameter decreases with decreasing ionic strength as the thickness of Ž the electric double layer increases. At the highest ionic strength investigated 6

. mmolrL a good linear dependence of the mobility on the reciprocal of the core radius allows the size-based characterization of the nanoparticles.
