โœฆ Synopsis

Reinforced polysulfone

(PS) membranes with asymetric porosity and an average pore radius of 300-1500 A were prepared by the method of continuous casting of the membrane on polyester web at ambient temperature.

The PS membrane possesses fairly good chemical stability and is resistant to heat. The membrane can be used as a supporting membrane for RO composite membranes. The ultrathin semi-permeable barrier of the PFI composite membrane was formed on the porous surface of the reinforced PS membrane by using an in situ polymerization technique. The effects of operating pressure, temperature, concentration and pH values of the feedwater on PFI membrane performance were observed, and at the same time, resistance to oxidation and chloridization, and long-term storage stability were tested.

Currently available polyamide (PA) reverse osmosis membranes are highly effective in their intended applications for desalination and industrial process water. However, they offer poor resistance to strong oxidants such as chlorine, resulting in chain deformation and depolymerization of the polymer.

Truly chlorine-resistant polyamide reverse osmosis composite membranes were prepared by cross-linking the interface of the composite membrane. Such membranes possessed chlorine resistance one order of magnitude more than those of the commercially used polyamide composite membranes. The effect of the
