## Abstract The mesocarp oil of the American oil palm is more unsaturated than that of the West African oil palm. Mesocarp oils obtained from F~1~ hybrids of these two oil palms exhibit an intermediate degree of unsaturation. Hybrid kernel oils are similar in composition to that of their West Afric

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Kernel oils from different palms of Elaeis oleifera, F~1~ hybrids and back‐cross with Elaeis guineensis were analysed for iodine value, fatty acid and triglyceride composition. Kernel oils of F~1~ hybrids and back‐cross were close in fatty acid and triglyceride composition to that of E. guineensis. Kernel oils of E. oleifera showed a different triglyceride distribution pattern to that of E. guineensis.
