Low temperature nitriding of stainless steel leads to the formation of a surface zone of so-called expanded austenite, i.e. by dissolution of large amounts of nitrogen in solid solution. In the present work the possibility of using nitrogen expanded austenite "layers" obtained by gaseous nitriding o
