980-nm pumped amplifiers [10,11]. However, the experimental PCEs are highly dependent on the optimization of the design itself. For instance, if the pump power of 980-and 1480-nm laser diodes are fixed while changing the EDF length, the 980-nm laser diode is efficient in producing high power at shor

Abstract
The characteristics of a bowβshaped microstrip patch antenna are analyzed and compared with a conventional rectangular microstrip antenna. The various parameters such as return loss, gain, and VSWR are determined and compared. It is found that the center frequency of the bowβshaped antenna is lower by about 12.82% than that of the conventional rectangular microstrip antenna. This implies that the size of the patch needs to be reduced in order to maintain the same resonant frequency. Β© 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An electrically small microstrip meander antenna incorporating the folded technology is fabricated and experimental results are presented in this paper. This antenna has the ad¨antages of compact size, ease of manufacturing, broad bandwidth, and multiband characteristics. Different-feed and differen
In the field analyses, two-cut patterns with a broadside pattern at 2.40 GHz and butterflylike patterns at 5.34 and 5.70 GHz are presented in the x-z cut, and the active current distributions of a real Poynting vector are obtained in order to present the performance of the proposed tree-shaped coupl
