In this chapter, we present some basic notions and properties from category theory, partial orders and metric spaces which w e will need in the subsequent chapters. This chapter is not intended to provide a comprehensive i n troduction to the subjects treated. Rather, it is aimed to list those major facts we shall assume in the next chapters (providing references for their proofs), and to make the reader familiar with the notation we will use. The only original material is Proposition 2.3.3 (stemming from 43]).
