Change in a bacterial population during the process of degradation of a phytoplankton bloom was investigated at Lake Hamana, Japan in June 1981. The predominant phytoplankton were Prorocentrum micans Ehrenberg and P. triestinum Schiller. While most phytoplankton cells were living and moving actively
