Relative water content (RWC) ofZea mays L. was depressed by both an increase in vapour pressure deficit (VPD) or by a decrease in soil matric potential (,I,r). When ~I, r = -1.5 bat an increase of 80 mbat in VPD depressed the RWC by 30%: indicating that, with flood irrigation, it may be difficult to
