✦ Synopsis

Rhodopseudomonas acidophila strain 7050 was grown at 2000 and 400 lx with pyruvate, lactate, succinate, fumarate, and DL-malate as substrates. The cells were analyzed for their pigmentation and especially for their carotenoid composition. The data showed that low light promoted synthesis of rhodopinal and its glucoside with all substrates tested. But with pyruvate, succinate and malate the low light effect was intensified.
