Vacuum News Diffstaks incorporate pump, valve and water-cooled baffle in a single casing : the resulting high conductance and elimination of possible sources of leaks, outgassing and gas bursts, gives high performance and clean pumping characteristics without the need for liquid nitrogen-cooled traps. This has alone produced major savings in running costs. Also, over the period during which they have been in use, the Diffstaks have proved capable of maintaining reliably a vacuum of 1 O-7 torr, as compared with the target figure of 1 O-6 torr at which the system was required to operate.
