✦ Synopsis

Evaporation of n-butanol from its aqueous solution into the air stream has been studied by means of examining both the rate of evaporation and the surface tension during evaporation. Discussing kinetically the experimental results, it has been concluded that there is no interfacial resistance and the total resistance consists of the resistance in the gas phase (90 per cent) and that in the liquid phase (10 per cent). The evaporation rate of alcohol was also measured for the systems of n-propanol-water and ethanol-water. The evaporation rates of three alcohols are correlated by Sh=O*62 Re*Sc*.
