✦ Synopsis

A new high speed rail link between Oslo and the new main airport at Gardermoen will be established in 1998. The planning process indicates that noise and vibration is one of the most important challenges in the planning of new railways. More knowledge about noise and vibration will therefore be helpful in the process of developing new railway projects. Furthermore, it seems of great importance to make considerable efforts to make the operation of the new railway quieter than today's railways.

Typical experimental prototypes of flexible robot arms are constituted as a rotating beam with distributed flexibility. The simplest example of flexible manipulators is a flexible slewing beam constrained to move in a horizontal plane. The beam is usually actuated by a motor and may carry a payload.
