**Reviewer:**Razvan Arsenescu, MD(University of Kentucky College of Medicine)
**Description:**This book covers clinical and epidemiologic issues in inflammatory bowel diseases. The previous edition was published in 2001.
**Purpose:**This is a rapidly evolving field. The numerous challenges faced by practicing gastroenterologists dealing with IBD patients make this book a useful companion. This edition provides a comprehensive review of the field in an evidence-based fashion.
**Audience:**The book is appropriate for practicing gastroenterologists and medical residents with an interest in gastroenterology, and inflammatory bowel diseases in particular. The authors are foremost authorities in the field.
**Features:**In classic textbook format, the chapters give an overview of the current knowledge and then identify limitations and controversies. Because this is a systematic review in an evidence-based manner, it would prove quite useful to those new to the field. However, the histopathology pictures lack quality and the references are rather old.
**Assessment:**The book is well written and addresses pertinent issues in inflammatory bowel diseases, thereby helping establish a reference point in the field. Nevertheless, this edition includes rather outdated references.
