✦ Synopsis

The 16th International Conference on Wear of Materials (WOM 2007) was held in Montréal, Québec, Canada from April 15 to 19, 2007. Delegates from 22 countries attended the conference. Paper submissions for the special issue of Wear were at an all-time high with 196 oral presentations and 59 poster presentations scheduled for presentation. Several presentations were, unfortunately, not given due to severe weather in the region, which made travel difficult into Montréal on the first 2 days of the conference. This year's conference marked 30 years for WOM. The first WOM Conference was held in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1977 with Ken Ludema serving as conference chair. This year's conference was the third time it has been held in Canada, but the first time the event has been in eastern Canada.

Another first for the conference was the designation of a best paper.
